Zambia women national team assistant coach Charles Haalubono has revealed they anticipate a tough match against Zimbabwe in the Three Nations Women’s Tournament at Bingu National Stadium in Malawi on Tuesday.

Speaking during a pre-match press conference, Haalubono conceded Zimbabwe are tactically sharp, as seen in their game against hosts Malawi, and further noted they (Zimbabwe) showed strong attacking play and good organization.

Haalubono added he has studied Zimbabwe thoroughly. Speaking on behalf of the players, captain Rachael Kundananji said the team has corrected mistakes from their previous match against Malawi.

“For us, it’s win or nothing. We’ve worked on our mistakes. Against Zimbabwe, we must do our best and take every chance. The defenders did their job, so it’s up to us strikers to score,” explained Kundananji.

“We don’t expect an easy game. They also want to finish with a win. They can afford a win or a draw; for us, it’s only a win.”

Zambia, who are using the tournament as part of their preparations for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco started their campaign with a draw against hosts Malawi.

Speaking before their first game against Malawi Scorchers, Haalubono said the game will help the technical bench start shaping the squad for WAFCON. “This is a preparation game for WAFCON. We have to take it seriously. It should help us start working on our team for the upcoming WAFCON,” said Haalubono.

He acknowledged the resurgence of Malawian women’s football, which has led to their first-ever WAFCON qualification. “Malawi has been improving, getting better and better. Now they have qualified for WAFCON. Congratulations to the coach, the technical staff, and the Football Association of Malawi.”

The Three-Nations Women’s Tournament which started on November 28, will be concluded on December 2, 2025 in Lilongwe.
